Cactus seed oil, commonly referred to as prickly pear oil, is a plant oil that is extracted by pressing the oil from the seeds of a cactus plant found in parts of the USA, MExico and South America, called Opuntia Ficus-Indica. Each prickly pear seed contains about 5% oil which means that 1000kg of cactus fruit needs to be farmed to extract 25kg of seeds to be able to make just 1 litre of cactus seed oil. This means cactus seed oil is rare and expensive but since it has double the nutrients of other plant oils, such as argan oil or coconut oil, you only need to use a small amount to reap the benefits. Cactus seed oil is rich in omega fatty acids, such as linoleic fatty acids which are good for repairing barriers and oleic fatty acids which help to stimulate cell growth to help slow down hair loss. This oil is also full of vitamin B5 which helps individual hair follicles retain moisture and nutrients which helps if you have dry hair or skin. This also helps prevent breakage and split ends so your hair looks hydrated and smooth. Cactus seed oil has a high quantity of vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant which is great for soothing itchy, irritated skin.
