Benedict Cumberbatch is the equivalent to a British national treasure. He is up there with the likes of Christian Bale and David Beckham. This English actor has won various awards throughout his career such as a Primetime Emmy which he received for his outstanding performance as the calculating British detective Sherlock Holmes in the BBC miniseries of Sherlock (2010-2017), a British Academy Television award, and a Laurence Olivier Award which he received for being the best actor in a theatre production of Frankenstein (2011). Cumberbatch has also been nominated for Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and even Golden Globes for his amazing performances in dramas such as The Imitation Game (2014) and The Power of the Dog (2021). He has also been listed in Times as one of the 100 Most Influential People In The World which is hardly surprising since this man has received a CBE from the Queen of England herself for services to the performing arts and to charity. That’s one impressive resume.
It seems that Benedict Cumberbatch is a man of many talents, so it is unsurprising that he gets swept up by every iconic film franchise on the planet. This English actor has featured in the Star Trek universe where he played antagonist Khan in the 2013 film Star Trek into Darkness. He has also managed to slide into the amazing world of Tolkien through incredible voice acting and motion capture as he played the gold-loving dragon Smaug and Sauron in The Hobbit film series. As if that wasn’t enough Cumberbatch was then snatched up by Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2016 where he played a neurosurgeon turned reality-bending wizard in Dr Strange. This character has made appearances in Thor: Ragnarök (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and most recently Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). This has given Cumberbatch the opportunity to work with all the Avengers from Chris Evans to Tom Holland.
But now we are all waiting for the latest MCU movie to drop… Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) which comes out May this year! So, in preparation for the special day we have decided to give a breakdown on how to pull off the Dr Strange haircut and, as always, we have included a bonus hairstyle.
This is a great hairstyle if you have thick hair and are looking to keep things short. After a bit of styling this haircut makes a big statement and totally works if you’re starting to see that salt and pepper throughout your hair. Dr Strange rocks his grey hair and so should you.
How To Cut:
For this hairstyle it's best to start your appointment with your barber by showing him the picture of the hairstyle you want (above). Aim to do a scissor over comb all over the hair starting around 2 inches at the bottom and then moving up into 4 inches at the top of the head. This way there is enough length for you to push back the haircut when you style it.
How To Style:
This is a great way for people with thick and wavy hair to keep everything neat and groomed. This hairdo is Mr Cumberbatch’s go to look for red carpet events and for any time he has to whip out one of his dapper suits and shiny shoes.
How To Cut:
Ask your barber for a quiff with short back and sides. Start by over-combing the back and sides starting around 1 ½ inches at the base of the neck and slowly tapering up to 2 inches towards the sides. For the top hair you want to point cut it till it’s around 3 inches in the length so you have some hair to work with when styling.
